White wine
Molenberg, part of the Collection Héritage, is made from a selection of our best and oldest vines located on Molenberg, the old name for Vidaigneberg, a hill leaning against Black Mountain. The wine is aged for 10 months in a mix of new Belgian and used French oak barrels. This gives it a refined, gastronomic woody flavour. It can easily be left to mature in the cellar for several more years.
Molenberg is ready to drink immediately and is best consumed within four years.
This wine is only produced in high-quality years for a full-bodied white wine: 2019, 2022 and 2024.
Fermentation in stainless steel vats followed by further ageing with the following composition:
Soil: sand-loam with Diestian sand, ironstone, flint stones and gravel. Underneath this, well-drained layers of Ledian and Paniselian sand
Climate: cool temperate climate influenced by the North Sea
Sustainable viticulture: defoliation, green harvesting, 5 km of indigenous hedges and sowing flower seeds against natural predators, sowing grass seeds to prevent erosion, using compost
Minimizing the ecological footprint (Certificate Carbon Footprint by Ecolife in Leuven):
With its intense flavour profile due to wood aging and concentration (from the fruit of the oldest vines), Molenberg is ideally suited to several gourmet dishes. Think of dishes with sufficient acidity and complexity, but at the same time with roasted / toasted notes. Suitable ingredients are poultry and white meat, white North Sea fish, ground chicory, beets, celeriac, mushrooms, hop shoots. For example: hop shoots with a poached farm egg or pheasant ‘à la Brabançonne’ with braised chicory. Delicious!
Serve at 10°C, in a large glass or after decanting.
